One frequent request of the Clerk is to provide copies of birth, death, and
marriage certificates. You can either request this information in person
or through the mail.
Birth
Certificates:
To receive a birth certificate copy,
please complete the
Vital Records Application
request form with proper identification and
proof of eligibility.
Send application and supporting documents, together with
payment and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

Where
to apply for a Marriage License:
Question:
Where do I apply for a Marriage License?
Answer: Maine Residents
must apply in the town/city where they reside. The license is valid in any
community in Maine for a period of 90 days from the date the intentions are
filed. Note: For couples who maintain separate Maine residences, they can
apply in one of the communities of residence.
Out-of-State Residents may apply in any town and hold
the ceremony in any town, for a period of 90 days from the date the intentions
are filed.
If the bride or groom is a Maine
resident, and the fiancé/fiancée resides out-of-state, both bride and groom
apply in the town of residence of the Maine resident. The license is valid in
any community in Maine for a period of 90 days from the date the intentions are
filed.

Marriage Licenses for Maine Residents
Question:
How do I apply for a Marriage License?
Answer:
For Maine residents only, follow these three steps:
STEP 1:
Intention of Marriage, Record of Social Security Numbers, Previous marriages,
and filing fees. These applications must be filed with the Town Clerk.
Intention of
Marriage: The bride and groom
must complete an Intention of Marriage form either at the Town Clerk’s
Department or by mail (notarized signatures required).
The marriage license is valid
for 90 days from the date the intentions are filed.
Record of Social
Security Numbers. The bride and
groom must file a Record of Social Security Numbers. This document is not for
public inspection.
Previous Marriage (s)
If either the bride or groom has been previously married, a certified copy of
the death certificate or divorce decree, whichever ended the previous marriage,
must be presented to the Town Clerk’s Department for review.
Filing Fee:
The application for Marriage License has a filing fee of $40.00.
STEP 2:
Both the bride and groom must appear in person
at the Office of the Town Clerk, prior to the ceremony, to sign the marriage
license. Proof of identity is required, e.g. driver's license, passport, state
I.D. The Town Clerk's Office is open 8:00AM - 5:00PM, Monday - Friday. The
office is closed weekends and holidays.
STEP
3: The
marriage license is completed by the officiant,
legally qualified to perform a marriage in Maine, and signed by two witnesses.
The officiant returns the license to the Town Clerk’s Department for filing.
Certified copies are available, through the Town Clerk's Office, by request
